Google Expands OS Upgrades to Five Years for Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold

Google Expands OS Upgrades to Five Years for Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold

In a major move, Google has expanded its OS upgrade policy to offer five years of operating system support for the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold devices. This update is a significant change from Google’s initial promise of three years of OS updates and five years of security updates for these devices.

The Pixel 6 series, including the Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, and Pixel 6 Pro, as well as the Pixel 7 series (Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel 7a) and the Pixel Fold, will now benefit from the extended OS support, ensuring users will receive Android 16, Android 17, and Android 18 by 2027.

However, it’s important to note that the Pixel Tablet is not included in this extended support plan, as it will remain on the original three-year OS updates and five-year security update plan.

This move solidifies Google as a trendsetter among Android manufacturers, as it leads the industry in extended support for its devices. Pixel 6 users can now expect Android 16 and Android 17, while Pixel 7 and Pixel Fold users are set to receive updates until Android 18 in 2027. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 families are also expected to receive up to seven years of updates, unless Google surprises us with further extensions.

With this change, Google reaffirms its commitment to providing long-term support for its devices, setting a new benchmark for Android updates.
